Early in the morning, around 9 am, a fire in Portland, Oregon lit. The fire was raging from within a large scrapyard. Portland’s skies were gray with puffs of thick smoke.
By 10 am the fire escalated and became a five-alarm fire.
The forecast says smoky air will be blown west of Portland.
The local department warns against open windows and doors. People living within a one-mile radius were required to turn off H-VACs and remain in their homes.

The fire devastated a neighboring apartment building, and Portland Public Schools was evacuated.
According to officials, 16 cats have been burned to death in the fire, but no human was harmed greatly.
The conflagration was put to rest at 12:34 pm PST.
