Most trends among teenagers are light-hearted, but when trends grow and start to affect their lives throughout the future, this trend eventually has to stop. Teens have started to sleep with their phones in their bed with them, and a majority of people included in this have no idea how this hurts their health.
We’ve all heard about how phones stimulate our brains before we go to sleep, but do teens really care?
I put my phone on my nightstand when I decide it’s time to go to bed. Sometimes, I’ll get a notification when I’m almost asleep and have the urge to answer it. Eventually, I have to shut my phone down so I can enter a deep slumber peacefully.
When your phone is in the bed with you, one will have to really push themselves not to constantly check what’s going on in social media. This repeating action of a stimulating screen meeting your eyes will have you staying up later and later into the night.
According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, teens need 9 ¼ hours of sleep per night to be able to function properly, act smartly, and communicate kindly within their attitude and their everyday thoughts.
The most common reason for lacking and bending a teenager’s sleep schedule is technology. Since teens are now sleeping with their phones directly next to them, their much-needed rest is taking a trip through the earth’s core.
Especially for the teens who start school early in the morning, sleep can’t be swapped with technology time. School-aged children who have to get up as early as 5 AM should not be indulging in this trend.
Recently, more and more parents have realized what sleep means to their child and are taking action. Parents are now taking phones, computers, and tablets so their teens can get a good night’s rest for an early awakening the next morning.
Technology is addicting in a teenagers life, and the latest trends have encouraged lack of sleep due to teen’s use of phones. Sleep can affect your future, so be smart and just go to sleep.
